Testing times

I thought I was going to have a great Monday. I woke up earlier than usual and wonder of wonders, didn’t feel the need to stay in bed and not get up.  In fact I leapt out of bed and was all pepped up to face the day. Roomie was a bit surprised to find me up and awake early and I even had my breakfast early. Oh!! There was no stopping me.

I managed to catch the early bus and I was happy that I wasn’t going to be late this Monday morning. How wrong I was! I hadn’t counted on the Murphy’s Law. I hadn’t thought that I would get stuck in traffic for 30 minutes (or was that more?)  I sat in the bus and stewed. I ended up reaching the office later than usual. How about that??

That was not the end of it. I got my performance appraisal today.  Its that time of the year, when the Management makes you feel that you haven’t done anything exceptional last year. So, they can screw up your bonus and increment. It’s a frustrating because there is no way you can change what they have decided. Only thing you can do, if you don’t like it, leave and go elsewhere. I know of some people who have managed to twist the Management’s arm and have their way (fatter paychecks, promotions etc). Unfortunately, I am a daft cow when it comes to such things. I do not know how to go about doing that. Besides, I don’t think it’s a good thing to do (twist someone’s arm). If you don’t like how your are being treated, find a place where you will be treated better and go.

So, what am I gonna do? Nothing as of now. Change means quite a lot of upheaval. I have enough on one front, so might as well take it easy on this front.

Today, the powers that be left no stone unturned to test my patience.  Guys who are reading this may not be able to empathize. But the ladies, especially those who wear salwar kameez can understand my predicament.  I went to the loo and accidentally tugged the wrong end of the “naada”. A naada is a sort of thread that holds the salwaar up. I ended up with the mother of all knots. I tried for several minutes and all I succeeded in doing was make the knot tighter. I came out of the toilet and retreated to my cubicle. I was hoping the knot would miraculously untie itself.

After sometime, I really needed to relieve myself. Damn the knot!! Finally I asked the housekeeping staff for help. It was quite ridiculous holding up the kameez, while she tried to untie the knot. It was a struggle for her too. Finally, we managed to untie the knot and I was able to answer nature’s call. If there was a day from hell, today would definitely be in the running.

I hope the week turns out to be better.

I managed to brave the unexpected chill that hit the city. But it is the heat that has done me in. Down with a bad cold, to top it all L
